Our Camping Trip

This last Friday Scott and I went camping up Payson Canyon with our friends Bobby and Emily. Our friends Tyler and Ashley were planning on coming as well, but the had returned from a week long trip the day before and poor Ashley was sick. Sick and camping don't go well together so we'll have to plan another trip!

We left after we all got off work on Friday and headed to a place my friend, and co-worker, Steven told me about. We went just south of the Payson Lakes. We were pretty close the the larger of the three lakes. We found a nice spot close to the trees with a large clearing for the cars, fire pit and tent.

When we got there we all set up the tent, then Emily and I got the beds made while the boys got wood for the fire. We came pretty prepared for everything, Bobby even had a hatchet and saw to cut the wood. But something we realized pretty fast was neither of us remembered to bring BUG SPRAY or SUN SCREEN! The other essentials beside the tent. We got a fire going and began cooking our tin foil dinners.

After it got dark it actually got pretty cold up there so we were glad to have the fire. But when we were going to bed I realized I forgot to pack my sweats to sleep in. I brought shorts in case it was hot and planned on sweats in case it was cold. So that night I didn't sleep very well because I was so cold. Plus our tent was on a slight slope and I was on the end of that so Scott kept sliding into me, pushing me into the side of the tent. When we woke up in the morning it was so hot in our tent, it was like a sauna. It felt like it was really late in the morning, but was only 8:30.

So we all got up and started making breakfast. Bobby and Emily brought a camping stove so we had eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. It was a pretty good breakfast, especially for camping. After that we got ready to go swimming in Payson Lake. We got up there and it is a very beautiful area. We walked around the lake until we found a good spot to get in. The water was pretty cold at first but once in it began to feel really nice. We decided to try swimming to the other side of the lake (width-wise, not length-wise). We all made it. Scott actually went a little more than halfway and then went back, so he did end up swimming the same distance. After swimming we sat there for awhile drying off and relaxing.

When we got back to our camping spot we started playing some card games in the shade. Shortly after that we noticed we were all getting a little red on our arms and face so we put on some aloe (go figure that we actually brought that and not the sunscreen!). We kept moving our chairs around to stay out of the sun so it wouldn't get worse. There was a nice breeze and so I put on a sweatshirt to make sure I wouldn't get burnt worse.

Joking around, Scott did this to keep the bugs off him. There were a lot of flys around.

After playing cards for awhile we went for a little walk/hike on the other side of the road from our camping spot. It was a small hill and I wanted to see what was on the other side. To our surprise, it's wasn't just another side of a mountain. It was an amazing view of a valley down there and over to some other mountains. We didn't stay too long before we went back.

Check out the sunburn on my neck...

After we got back we were hanging out and there was a buck deer that had come over to eat on the cabbage grass near us. I slowly and quietly crept closer and closer to him. He would stop eating and look at me for a minute and then keep eating. So I ended up getting about 10 feet away from him when I took this picture.

That night we had BBQ chicken for dinner that we cooked on our grill and made smores that night. I like to get my chocolate to melt before I roast my marshmellow. Well, It got really melted and as I was eating mine, the chocolate dripped all over my pants. To make it worse, and I don't even know how this happened, chocolate even got on the back of my chair and on the seat. And I sat right in it!! So I had chocolate all over!!! Sleeping that night was much better. We all changed spots so I wasn't on the bottom of the slope anymore. But we were all uncomfortable because of our burns. I woke Scott up during the night because I was shivering so he had me cuddle up against him to get warm. I spent the night cuddling to get warm, getting too hot so I moved away, getting cold again..... just going back and forth.

We had leftovers for breakfast in the morning and then packed everything up. I was eager to take a shower. We all had a really fun time and I would love to go again soon.

looks like you had a great camp-out - next time remember the sunscreen & bug spray - two essentials for sure on any camp-out! lol

Looks like it was a lot of fun! I can't wait for my family to get a chance to go camping. The last time we went was before Cayden was born! I think it would be fun to stay in a yert though too.
